Data Automation and Delivery

How to access Intratec data programmatically through the Excel Add-In, Power BI, REST API, and downloadable spreadsheets — including request limits and reset rules.

Excel and Power BI Integration

How do I get Intratec data into Excel or Power BI?

The Excel Add-In and Power BI integration are available on Advanced and Ultimate plans across all Intratec subscription products. Both let you pull live data into your existing models and dashboards without manual data entry.

Excel Add-In — Access and refresh data directly inside Microsoft Excel with a single click. The add-in works with existing Excel models on Windows and Mac (Excel 16.0 or later) — no spreadsheet restructuring required. Templates can hold up to 40 assessment codes; you choose currency and unit settings, then click Get Series Values to populate. Connection modes (Enabled, Test, Disabled) let you validate setup without consuming data requests.

Power BI — Pre-configured, open-source .pbix project files connect directly to your subscription data with no setup required. Use the dashboards as-is or modify the Power Queries to fit your reporting needs. See Can I connect Intratec data to Power BI? for setup details.

Both tools share a single monthly request pool with the REST API. Limits, axis (per industry vs. per country), and tier structures vary by product — check the subscription-plans page for your specific product:

Can I connect Intratec data to Power BI?

Power BI integration is available on Advanced and Ultimate plans for all Intratec subscription products, at no additional cost. We provide pre-configured, open-source .pbix project files that connect directly to your subscription data.

To get started:

  1. Assign the Developer role to a user in your subscription via Users Management.
  2. Download the product-specific .pbix file from your account.
  3. Authenticate using the Developer credentials and refresh — your subscription data populates the dashboards immediately.

A courtesy account is included for testing the dashboards before connecting to your actual data. Because the .pbix files are open-source, you can modify Power Queries to adjust data retrieval, build entirely custom dashboards, or integrate the data into existing reporting flows. All historical data available under your plan is accessible through the integration.

Each Power BI data refresh counts as one request against your monthly data request pool, which is shared across the API, Excel Add-In, and Power BI. See What happens when I run out of data requests? for limit and reset rules.

REST API

Is there a REST API for Intratec data?

Yes — Intratec provides a REST Web API on Advanced and Ultimate plans for all subscription products, at no additional cost. The API delivers programmatic access to current data and full historical archives within your plan's depth.

The API follows standard REST conventions and returns JSON responses, making it straightforward to integrate with any system or language your team already uses. Officially supported languages include JavaScript, Python, Ruby, C#, PHP, Go, and R.

It is also compatible with workflow automation platforms — Microsoft Logic Apps, N8N, Zapier, and similar tools — as well as ERP systems and proprietary applications. Currency and unit selection are supported per series for products where these dimensions apply. A single request can retrieve up to 40 data series via the Series Values or Series History endpoints — this limit is part of the API itself and applies across all Intratec subscription products.

Access is structured around a Developer role:

  1. Subscribe to an Advanced or Ultimate plan.
  2. Invite the developer user to your subscription.
  3. Assign the Developer role through Users Management.
  4. Authenticate via the API and follow the documentation at intratec.us/data-delivery/api.

Plan availability:

Plan API Users
Starter Not available
Pro Not available
Advanced 1
Ultimate Up to 20

API requests share a combined monthly pool with the Excel Add-In and Power BI. The exact request count depends on your product and tier — see the subscription-plans page for your specific product for the allowance table.

Downloadable Spreadsheets

Can I download Intratec data as a monthly spreadsheet?

Monthly Downloadable Spreadsheets are available exclusively on the Ultimate plan across all Intratec subscription products. Each month, ready-to-use spreadsheet files with the latest data are uploaded to your user area — a convenient option if you prefer working with static exports rather than live integrations.

This applies uniformly to Primary Commodity Prices, Energy Prices & Markets, Industry Economics & Competitiveness, and Industry Economics & Competitiveness — Starter, Pro, and Advanced subscribers do not have access to this feature on any product.

To access the spreadsheets after subscribing:

  1. Log in at intratec.us with your registered email and password.
  2. Navigate to Your Products (or My Products) in the account menu.
  3. Locate the relevant subscription and download the current spreadsheet files directly.

This is a separate feature from the Excel Add-In. Downloadable Spreadsheets are static files updated on the monthly release cycle, while the Excel Add-In connects live to your subscription and refreshes data on demand. Downloading a spreadsheet does not count against your monthly request limit.

Request Limits

What happens when I run out of data requests?

When the monthly request allowance is exhausted, no further core data can be retrieved through the API, Excel Add-In, or Power BI for that scope (per industry or per country, depending on the product) until the limit resets. Requests are pooled across the three automation methods — every retrieval of subscription data counts against the same allowance.

The reset happens automatically when new data is published according to the release schedule — you do not need to take any action. The reset is tied to the monthly publication date, not to a fixed calendar date.

Requests are non-cumulative: unused allowance from the current cycle does not carry over to the following month.

If you consistently reach the limit before the reset, you can increase your allowance at any time by adding an Extra Automation Package:

  1. Log in at intratec.us.
  2. Navigate to Subscriptions (or Subscriptions Billing) in your account.
  3. Click Upgrade Plan and select the Extra Automation Package.
  4. Pay the prorated difference for the remainder of the current billing period.
