Solution Overview

An overview of what Energy Prices & Markets is, what data it provides, and how subscriptions work.

What is Intratec Energy Prices & Markets?

Energy Prices & Markets is an annual subscription program delivering monthly reports on energy commodity prices and markets for countries worldwide.

Each subscription is organized by country. When you subscribe, you choose a plan tier and select the countries you want to cover. Every month, updated reports are published for your selected countries — each report covering 12 energy commodities with current prices, historical data, and additional market intelligence depending on your plan.

The 12 commodities covered are: Crude Oil, Natural Gas, Coal, LPG, Naphtha, Gasoline, Kerosene, Diesel, Fuel Oil, Electricity, Ethanol, and Biodiesel. Coverage spans 33 strategic countries across North America, South America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East.

Subscriptions are available in four plan tiers — Starter, Pro, Advanced, and Ultimate — differing in the depth of historical data, inclusion of price forecasts and market intelligence, and available delivery formats. Starting price is $19 USD per country per month, billed annually.

How many countries and energy commodities are covered?

Energy Prices & Markets covers 12 energy commodities across 33 countries. Each country subscription covers all 12 commodities — there is no option to subscribe to a single commodity.

Energy commodities covered: Crude Oil, Natural Gas, Coal, LPG, Naphtha, Gasoline, Kerosene, Diesel, Fuel Oil, Electricity, Ethanol, and Biodiesel.

33 countries covered: United States, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, and United Kingdom.

Subscriptions are sold per country. You can start with one country and add more at any time — each addition is charged as the larger subscription's fee minus a prorated credit for the unused time on your current subscription, with the updated subscription running another full year. For the step-by-step procedure to add countries, see Can I add more countries after subscribing?.

Are price forecasts included in the subscription?

Price forecasts are included in Pro, Advanced, and Ultimate plans. The Starter plan does not include forecasts.

Forecasts cover selected energy price assessments and are classified as "short-term." The help center also references a 6-month forward horizon for these forecasts.

Can I try the solution before subscribing?

Free trials are not available for Energy Prices & Markets. However, several free resources let you evaluate the solution in depth before committing to a subscription:

  • Preview reports — Sample reports with approximately 1 year of historical data, available at no cost. These give you a representative view of report structure and data quality.
  • Methodology documents — Publicly available documents explaining how Intratec assesses energy prices, including data collection, processing, and publication methods. These live on our methodology site, free and without a login.
  • Price type explanations — Detailed descriptions of the different price categories covered (spot, contract, wholesale, and others), so you understand what each assessment represents.

These resources are available on the Energy Prices & Markets solution page at intratec.us.

What market data is included beyond just prices?

Depending on your plan, Energy Prices & Markets goes well beyond price data — Advanced and Ultimate subscribers receive a full suite of market intelligence covering supply, demand, trade flows, freight costs, and electricity generation breakdowns.

All plans include current prices and historical price data for 12 energy commodities. From there, the scope expands by plan:

Price Forecasts (Pro, Advanced, Ultimate) Short-term price forecasts for selected energy assessments, updated monthly.

Market Outlook (Advanced and Ultimate)

  • Exports, imports, and trade balance
  • Trade partners
  • Production volumes
  • Demand figures
  • Energy balance
  • Energy self-sufficiency
  • Trade dependencies

Freight & Insurance Costs (Advanced and Ultimate)

  • Freight rates
  • Freight rate forecasts
  • Insurance costs
  • Netback and netforward prices

Electricity Generation by Source (Advanced and Ultimate) Breakdown of electricity generation by energy source within each country.

Global Prices Comparison (Advanced and Ultimate)

  • Ranking of energy commodity prices by country
  • Ranking of average energy prices across covered countries

This breadth of market data allows analysts and procurement teams to move beyond price tracking and understand the fundamental drivers shaping energy markets in each country.

Where does Intratec source its energy price data?

Energy price data is sourced and processed by Intratec's own pipeline, combining official government and international sources with internal mathematical models where official data alone is insufficient, and is published as the monthly assessments included in your subscription.

Specific data source names are considered trade secrets and are not disclosed on a per-commodity basis. Methodology documents describing the general sourcing and processing approach in detail are publicly available.

Which categories of source feed an assessment, when that data is collected, and what each published data status label means are set out in Which categories of source feed the analysis?, When is data collected, and what causes reporting lag?, and What do the Final, Preliminary, and Forecast labels mean? on our methodology site.

How is this different from real-time energy price feeds?

Energy Prices & Markets publishes monthly price data based on official government trade statistics and structured internal models. This is fundamentally different from a real-time energy price feed:

  • Monthly data reflects completed transactions and officially reported figures over the course of a month. This approach produces reliable, statistically grounded assessments suited for strategic planning, procurement benchmarking, and investment analysis.
  • Real-time feeds track live market activity, capturing intraday price movements as they occur — typically sourced from exchanges, spot markets, or continuous quote streams.

Energy Prices & Markets is designed for analytical and strategic workflows — not for real-time trading or intraday decision-making. The monthly cadence and official-data foundation make it especially well-suited for procurement teams, energy analysts, and investment professionals who need dependable benchmarks rather than live market quotes.

When the underlying data is collected each month, and why an official source can lag its own reporting calendar, is explained in When is data collected, and what causes reporting lag? on our methodology site.

Can I subscribe to a single commodity only?

Single-commodity subscriptions are not available. Each country subscription covers all 12 energy commodities assessed for that country — Crude Oil, Natural Gas, Coal, LPG, Naphtha, Gasoline, Kerosene, Diesel, Fuel Oil, Electricity, Ethanol, and Biodiesel.

Subscriptions are structured by country, not by commodity. When you subscribe to a country at any plan tier, you receive price data and reports for the full set of energy commodities covered in that country.

This structure reflects how energy markets work in practice: commodity prices within a country are interconnected, and procurement, risk management, and strategic analysis typically require a cross-commodity view rather than a single-fuel perspective.
